Forestry machine manufacturer Ponsse and the software company Epec will be recruiting new talent for their Tampere unit. The suitable premises were found in the middle of Hervanta campus.
The most recent newcomer in Kampusareena on the Tampere Hervanta campus is the joint R&D unit of the forestry machinery company Ponsse and its subsidiary Epec. The new unit designs software and automation for mobile work machines.
Their other major objective is to tap into the recruitment pool.
“We want to ensure that we continue to hire the best talent. Competition for the best individuals in different specialist fields has become stiffer with the recovering economy,” says Juha Inberg, Director, Technology and R&D, Ponsse.
A natural choice
Tampere was selected as the location for the unit as the city has become the growth centre for the mobile work machine industry. The city also hosts high-level software and automation training and business.
Settling on the campus was also an easy decision.
“It is important for us to be within close proximity to Tampere University of Technology and our other partners. We have several research projects ongoing with the university on the development of forestry machine automation. Now that the distance is even shorter, our collaboration is likely to grow even closer.
What tipped the scale in favour of Kampusareena was its location in the centre of the campus. Ponsse and Epec appreciate the modern facilities and that no building or alteration works were needed.
According to Inberg, the premises have the right balance between work spaces and meeting facilities. The four circular rooms within the open space provide privacy for Skype meetings or tasks that require peace and quiet.
Things moved on rapidly from the first contact. Within a week from viewing the different options available on the campus, Ponsse and Epec had signed the lease.
The first employees started at Kampusareena in November. Recruitment to build the team has already begun. The aim is to expand the team into 20 employees by the end of 2018.
Collaboration with SYK has been smooth.
“Our contact person Jaana Hanninen is very proactive and supportive. She has been such a great help to use when organising the information and recruitment day,” says Inberg.”
